Skin needling activates your skin’s natural repair and regeneration processes
Using tiny, sterile needles that create micro-channels in the skin to stimulate collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production for rejuvenation and healthy, resilient skin.
We lose collagen every year over the age of 25 but collagen production can be boosted by up to 400% after skin needling.
This can result in:
- Improved skin texture and firmness
- Reduced fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduced scarring and pigmentation
- A more even skin tone
- Radiant and younger looking skin
- Stronger, healthier skin that responds better to future treatments
Because best results from skin needling treatments come from correct skin preparation, consistent home skin care and a personalised treatment plan, all skin needling clients need to begin with a personalised skin consultation
and use the correct prescribed skin care for your skin’s needs for at least a month prior to your first treatment.
Skin needling could work well for you if you’re:
- Ready to follow a consultation-led, home-care-supported plan
- Seeking long-term improvements in scarring, pigmentation or ageing and committed to improving skin texture, tone and firmness
But it may not be suitable if the skin barrier is compromised or highly inflamed or if you have certain health conditions (these cases will be assessed in your personalised skin consultation).
The correct prescription skincare prepares your skin to get the most from skin needling treatments
Skin needling has incredible benefits for the skin but a lot depends on preparation.
Using the right skincare before and after your skin needling treatment strengthens the skin barrier, reduces recovery time and maximises collagen and elastin stimulation.
You can expect better results from your skin needling treatments if your skin is supported with the right home skin care plan before, after and between treatments. This includes using a good SPF daily to protect collagen.
Skin needling also supports your at home skin care routine and helps you to get more from your home skin care.

FAQs about skin needling with The Skin Wytch
Where do skin needling treatments take place?
Your skin needling treatments will take place in my skin clinic in Stalybridge, Manchester.
Why do I need a skin consultation before skin needling?
I always start with a personalised skin consultation to ensure that skin needling is safe and suitable for you before any treatments are booked in.
Depending on your skin or health, skin needling may not be recommended for you. This includes autoimmune conditions, pregnancy and diabetes which isn’t being well controlled.
We’ll discuss your health history and your skin in your personalised skin consultation.
Is skin needling fine for all skin types?
Skin needling is suitable for most skin types but may not be recommended in certain situations, including severe acne, eczema and active sunburn.
If you have acne prone skin or an inflammatory skin condition such as rosacea, the first priority is getting it under control with the correct prescribed skin care and other treatments before we consider skin needling.
Does skin needling help acne?
Skin needling isn’t recommended for active acne, especially severe breakouts.
If you’ve had acne in the past, skin needling can improve skin texture and reduce acne scarring.
I’ll assess your skin during your personalised skin consultation to decide whether your skin is suitable for skin needling.
Is skin needling good for rosacea?
Skin needling can worsen active rosacea and other active inflammatory skin conditions. But if your rosacea is under control and the skin barrier is no longer impaired, skin needling can be helpful.
During your personalised skin consultation, I’ll advise whether skin needling is an appropriate treatment for your skin.
Does skin needling help pigmentation?
Skin needling can reduce pigmentation, including acne scars and sun damage.
Why do I need to be on prescribed skincare for at least one month before skin needling?
A strong, healthy skin barrier is essential before starting skin needling. Most clients have an impaired skin barrier (often due to at-home skin care not supporting the skin barrier) and need to prioritise this before we consider skin needling.
Using the correct skincare for at least a month gives the skin barrier a chance to repair and strengthen, ensuring your skin is truly ready for skin needling.
This preparation also supports the deeper skin cells that will be stimulated during skin needling treatment so they’re in the best possible condition to regenerate.
It’s common for skin to look healthy on the surface while still carrying underlying DMA damage from factors such as UV exposure, pollution and free radical damage, all of which can affect how well the skin responds to skin needling
.
How often should I have skin needling and how many sessions do you recommend?
The best results won’t come from a one-off skin needling treatment and most clients benefit from receiving a course of 3-6 sessions with at least 8 weeks between treatments, depending on your skin concerns.
But the number of sessions and the time between them depends on your skin’s needs and we’ll discuss my recommendations in your personalised skin consultation.
Do you recommend having LED light therapy straight after skin needling?
LED is anti-inflammatory so I rarely recommend having it straight after skin needling as the temporary inflammatory effects of skin needling are what drives the results.
This is why LED light therapy isn’t a part of my skin needling treatments.
Do you use topical numbing cream?
I don’t use topical numbing cream for skin needling. You may feel some vibration during the treatment but the advanced technology of the Exceed pen means no microtears are created in the skin compared to using a skin needling pen without this technology.
Are skin needling results permanent?
For acne and other scars that fade after skin needling, the results are usually permanent.
For other skin concerns, it’s likely that you’ll need maintenance treatments to keep on stimulating further collagen production.
Is there any downtime with skin needling?
You may notice some redness or sensitivity for a short time after skin needling. This is normal and usually settles down within 48 hours.
There are a few things you should avoid after a skin needling treatment, which we’ll discuss before you leave.
