KIT INCLUDED WITH THIS MASTERCLASS - UK
As we embrace the peak of summer in the northern hemisphere, we find ourselves in the realm of the Fire Element according to the 5 Element theory.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Fire Element presides over the Heart and Small Intestine, influencing our complexion, circulation, and inner vitality, all of which are reflected on our facial landscape through associated emotions.
When the Fire energy is in equilibrium, our complexion exudes a healthy, rosy glow. However, imbalances in this element can manifest as redness, dullness, or tension.
On Thursday, July 23rd at 7:30 pm 2026, I am excited to host a live online Masterclass where we will delve into the harmonisation of the Fire Element using a combination of Gua Sha and Face Yoga techniques for the face.
If you are unable to attend the live session don't worry; the recording will be uploaded to our online platform and you will have unrestricted access to it after the session.
Upon enrolling in this masterclass, you will receive a Gua Sha kit comprising a Jade Gua Sha tool, a premium Guatemalan cotton bag for safekeeping your tool, and a 50ml bottle of Jojoba Facial oil.
Postage expenses are covered for UK deliveries.
Besides the live class and recording, you will also enjoy immediate access to a pre-recorded Gua Sha Masterclass, allowing you to kickstart your practice upon receiving your kit.
Gua Sha facial massage is a natural skincare technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, utilising a smooth, flat tool typically made from Jade. This practice has seen a surge in popularity as a method to lift and sculpt facial contours through tension release, and promote glowing skin by enhancing circulation and lymphatic fluid flow. The process involves applying facial oil to the skin for glide, followed by gentle strokes with the Gua Sha tool along specific pathways on the face, neck, and décolleté.
Not to be confused with Body Gua sha, Facial Gua Sha much more gentle in it's approach. Think of it as a modern day cousin of Body Gua Sha, a practice steeped in Eastern tradition that has been passed down through the generations. The purpose of body Gua Sha is to release stagnation from the body to treat dis-ease, it's name roughly translating from 'Gua', meaning scraping and 'Sha' meaning sand. The 'sand' refers to the petechiae marks left on the skin that resemble areas of red dots not dissimilar in appearance to bruising, although not painful. Rest assured, this is not the aim with Facial Gua Sha; if at any time sha does appear on the skin resulting from being over zealous, it's nothing to worry about, it just means your body is releasing stagnation and the mark should disappear in a day or two.
Face Yoga and Gua Sha are both popular techniques for facial rejuvenation, each offering unique benefits. While Gua Sha is centred around facial massage, Face Yoga concentrates on facial exercises that work to activate and tone the muscles in the face, similar to how body muscles can be trained. Both practices aim to improve lift and definition and when combined, Face Yoga and Gua Sha complement each other effectively, leading to enhanced results in overall facial care.
For best results, I suggest incorporating short and frequent practice sessions into your routine. This approach mirrors the concept of a gym routine - engaging in a single prolonged workout on the weekend won't yield as many benefits as consistent, brief practice sessions throughout the week. Achieving success with Face Yoga and Gua Sha involves adopting a dedicated lifestyle, emphasising the importance of persistence and time to achieve the results. It's beneficial to practice whenever convenient, even if it's just for five minutes on a regular basis. Face Yoga is particularly effective in energising you in the morning by stimulating the muscles and preparing you for the day, whilst an evening Gua Sha routine can release the day's tensions, promoting a restful night's sleep.
This will vary with each individual - lifestyle factors such as age, diet, hydration, sleep, sun exposure & stress levels will impact results. The first results you might typically see would be the effects of lymphatic drainage, which can often be instant. The longer term benefits of improved muscle tone may become apparent after a few weeks of practice, with the results building up over time. I believe it is important to embrace these natural facial rejuvenation modalities as a form of self care, to enjoy the way it makes you feel and not just seeing it as a means to end, to look younger - when we feel good, we look good, so breathe, relax and enjoy it!
The outcomes of facial rejuvenation practices can vary for each individual and are influenced by lifestyle factors such as age, diet, hydration, sleep, sun exposure, and stress levels. Immediate results often involve the effects of lymphatic drainage, while longer-term benefits like improved muscle tone may become noticeable after consistent practice over a few weeks. It is important to view these natural rejuvenation techniques as a form of self-care to enhance overall well-being, rather than solely for looking younger. Remember that feeling good translates to looking good, so take a moment to breathe, relax, and enjoy the experience!
It is crucial to wait at least 4-6 weeks before practicing Face Yoga or using Gua Sha techniques on a facial area that has recently received Botox or Fillers. Always consult your practitioner for specific advice. The Face Yoga & Gua Sha masterclasses by Skin Wytch incorporate a blend of massage and exercise methods that could potentially accelerate the fading of Botox. It is advisable to gently perform massage techniques on Botox-treated areas. Initially, you may encounter difficulty activating muscles during the exercises; as the effects of Botox diminish, muscle movement becomes easier. Strengthening the underlying muscles is beneficial even with facial fillers, as strong muscle tone aids in preserving facial shape and contour. Nevertheless, proceed with caution when massaging areas with fillers to prevent migration, particularly if the fillers are recent.
Whilst the Skin Wytch Face Yoga and Gua Masterclasses primarily involve gentle exercises and massage techniques, it is essential to consult with your surgeon, GP, or dentist if you have recently had facial or neck surgery, extensive dental procedures, or sustained injuries to the head, face, or upper body. Waiting until you have fully recovered and are in good health is crucial before starting any new facial exercise or massage routine.
The Skin Wytch Face Yoga & Gua masterclasses offer a blend of massage and exercise techniques. It is recommended to refrain from using Gua Sha massage methods on areas of the skin experiencing an inflammatory skin condition or skin barrier disorder like acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and peri-oral dermatitis. On the other hand, the Face Yoga exercises are generally safe to practice since they focus on working the muscles without causing friction on the skin's surface.
